Name: MUSEUM NAMES CHUCK AND BARBARA MAULDIN AS MAY ARTISTS OF THE MONTH
Date: May 17, 2018
Time: 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM CDT
Event Description:
The Museum of Western Art will host its Artist of the Month reception on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at 5:30 p.m. with landscape artists Chuck and Barbara Mauldin. Non-museum members are invited to attend the wine and cheese reception with a suggested donation of $10; museum members, of course, attend at no charge. Barbara graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in biology in 1975. Her interest in art has always been a part of the fabric of her life, and she began painting fine art in earnest in 2005. Her art is mainly in oil, especially plein air paintings, and she also dabbles in church banner painting, wood burning, and mosaics. Although she enjoys all these endeavors, she prizes the time she spends with her husband and fellow artist Chuck Mauldin, painting the beautiful landscapes of the Texas Hill Country, as well as any area of the world where they are visiting. “I like to emphasize the color that I see, as a creative and emotional response to the landscape.” She is an associate member of Oil Painters of America and an associate member of Women Artists of the West. Chuck Mauldin is a native Texan and has been painting in oil since the age of twelve. His interest in watercolor and pencil drawing grew during his years spent in Louisiana. With his move back to Texas, he has renewed his focus on oil painting, using this medium to portray a broad range of subject matter, in a realistic yet painterly style. Striving to quickly capture color and mood with a direct “alla prima” technique is one of his main objects in painting outdoors on-location. He is a member of Oil Painters of America and has achieved Signature membership in the Louisiana Watercolor Society and the Plein Air Artists of Colorado. The award-winning Museum of Western Art is located at 1550 Bandera Highway in Kerrville. For more information, please call 890.896.2553.
