The Museum of Western Art is pleased to showcase artist Jeff Gant as its Artist of the Month for July. A wine and cheese reception will be held on Thursday, July 21 at 5:30 p.m. Non-museum members are invited to attend with a suggested donation of $10; museum members, of course, can attend the event at no charge. Please call 896.2553 to R.S.V.P. “Capturing the contemporary working cowboy is my main focus because it’s what I know best and I feel like that way of life is slipping away,” Jeff said. As a high school physics and chemistry teacher, he wakes up early every morning to drink a cup or two of coffee and gets as much painting done as possible before heading off to school. While mostly self-taught, Jeff has participated in Cowboy Artists of America Martin Grelle’s And Bruce Green’s workshop in Clifton, Texas, where he has twice been awarded a scholarship to attend through the Joe Beeler Foundation. He graduated from Southwest Texas State University with a BS in aquatic biology. He and his wife Roben and their two children live on the family ranch outside of San Marcos, where they see inspirations for paintings daily. The award-winning Museum of Western Art is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The Museum is a Blue Star Museum, which means that now through Labor Day, active military and their families can attend the Museum at no charge.
