Date: April 23, 2016
Time: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM CDT
Event Description:
Plains Indian living history interpreter Curtis Carter will pay a visit to The Museum of Western Art on Saturday, April 23, 2016, from 10:00 until 4:00 p.m. Other activities include crafts for children, an opportunity to visit with Artist-in-Residence and Cowboy Artist Jason Scull, and refreshments. Museum Director Stephanie Turnham said, ?This is an informal opportunity to visit with Curtis Carter, living history interpreter. Carter, a biology teacher in Poolville, Texas, has all of the trappings that would have been in a 1860s Cheyenne camp. Artifacts include toys, parfleche, bison knuckles, weaponry, moccasins, and much more.? Children will be able to make several craft activities relating to our Native American heritage. ?This fun event is for families to learn and enjoy together,? said Turnham. The craft activities are free. The Children?s Gallery will also be open to explore the Journey West through the eyes of a little girl. Artist in Residence Jason Scull will be on hand to talk about his work as a sculptor. Admission to all of these activities is only $7 for parents and grandparents, aunts and uncles; children under 15 get in free for this special event. The museum?s Remuda, the volunteer arm of the Museum, will be selling delicious BBQ sandwiches, chips, pickles, onions, and a dessert for only $6.00 per plate. ?Anyone who hasn?t tasted Hans Poppe?s BBQ hasn?t really lived,? said Katie Williams, Remuda president. The award-winning museum is located at 1550 Bandera Highway in Kerrville. Open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. For more information, please call 830.896.2553.
