Name: Music I Heard: A Recital
Date: September 24, 2015
Time: 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM CDT
Event Description:
Matthew Ratliff, B.A., accompanied by Dr. Sabrina Adrian, will offer an all new and exciting program of vocal solos at 7:00PM on September 24, 2015. The recital will take place in the Riverside Sanctuary at Kerrville First United Methodist Church. This is not Matt's first recital at KFUMC, but it is his first as member of their staff. Matthew has just been appointed as the brand new Assistant Director Music and Worship at First Methodist after having served as their director in an interim capacity for about 7 months. Matthew holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Western Carolina University in scenic Cullowhee, North Carolina. Matt has studied voice with Lynda Ables and more recently with Merrily Cage of Bandera, Texas. Matthew is an alumnus of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America and sings with the 100+ man ?Friends in Harmony? barbershop chorus in San Antonio. Dr. Sabrina Adrian began playing piano at the age of seven. Since then she has earned a bachelor?s degree from Southwestern University, two master?s degrees from UT-San Antonio, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts from The University of Texas. She began her ministry in Kerrville in 2002 when she joined the staff of First United Methodist Church, where she has served ever since. She has served several churches in San Antonio including First Presbyterian and Travis Park UMC. Dr. Adrian has wowed audiences around the globe and every Sunday at KFUMC. Dr. Adrian?s genes for musical talent clearly have passed to her daughter, Audrey. Audrey is coming off of a summer with the Young Artists Program of the Cactus Pear Music Festival in San Antonio and has recently won a seat in the Youth Orchestra of San Antonio. Her talents and skill are exceptional even by adult performance standards. Mr. Ratliff and Dr. Adrian are thrilled that she will be joining them for ?It Is Enough,? from Mendelssohn?s Elijah. The recital, which Mr. Ratliff is calling Music I Heard, will cover a wide variety of genres, styles, and time periods. Drawing from the opera, oratorio, art song, and sacred repertoires, this recital really does offer something for everyone! The concert is FREE!!! and open to the public. While there is no cost to attend, children?s story books are being collected to support Mustard Seed Ministries. Mustard Seed is a client choice food pantry that serves residents of Kerrville and the surrounding county. Mustard Seed provides its customers with an experience more like shopping than receiving. Over the summer Mustard Seed began providing story books for their youngest clients. This addition to their ministry has been a huge hit. The kids love picking out a book to keep for their very own and some of the Mustard Seed clients and volunteers have even gotten involved in reading together with them.
