Kerrville Fire / EMS Department to Host Blood Drive

Kerrville, Texas (December 4, 2014) –

It’s that time again! Please come and support the Kerrville Fire / EMS Department blood drive on Saturday, December 6, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Wal-Mart parking lot located at 1216 Junction Highway. Everyone who donates blood will receive a mini-physical and a t-shirt. They will also leave knowing they saved the life of three other people with "The Gift of Life". According to the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center, one unit of blood can save three lives. Many are counting on our lifesaving donation.

"Our goal during this blood drive will be to collect 30 units of blood," stated Eric Maloney, EMS Coordinator of the Kerrville Fire / EMS Department. "With the help of Kerrville area residents we should be able to accomplish that goal." The South Texas Blood and Tissue Center is the main supplier of blood for patients in 67 hospitals within 43 South Texas counties. "They are in critical need of blood at this time and the summer months will increase the demand on an already limited supply. The Kerrville Fire / EMS Department would like to do all we can to turn that around."

Remember, it only takes 45 minutes of your time to have an opportunity to save the life of another person. One out of every 20 Texans will need blood at some point in their lives. All blood types are accepted and all donations are greatly appreciated. The requirements to donate are that you be 17 years or older (16 years old with parental consent form), weigh at least 110 pounds, and that you are in good general health.

For information about donating blood, please contact Rita Holmberg-Woodman with the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center at (830) 522-0178.
