Home Depot Donates Smoke Alarms to Kerrville Fire Department

for the Free Smoke Alarm Program

Kerrville, Texas (March 26, 2015) –

On Tuesday, March 24, 2015, Home Depot through Kiddie United Technologies graciously presented the Kerrville Fire Department with 200 smoke alarms and the batteries to go with them. The Kerrville Fire Department provides free smoke alarms to the public and assists households with installation for those that need it. Smoke alarms can be picked up at the Fire Administration Building at 87 Coronado Drive, Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. James Bruce, Home Depot Store Manager presented the alarms to Fire Chief Dannie Smith along with several members of the Kerrville Fire Department. "We are thrilled to be able to help the community and families with fire safety," stated Bruce. "Kiddie United Technologies really stepped up to the plate once they found out about this program."

"We sincerely appreciate this gracious donation by Home Depot and Kiddie," stated Smith. "We are fortunate to have businesses in Kerrville such as Home Depot that are community-minded and supportive. Providing services such as our free smoke alarm program is truly rewarding. Our goal is to minimize the risk of loss of life and property due to fires. Having smoke alarms in homes is a simple and key first step with fire safety. All homes should have one."

Smoke alarms can help make the difference between life and death in a fire, but they need to be working. Working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in a home fire in half. While research shows that most U.S. homes have at least one smoke alarm, almost two-thirds of home fire deaths result from fires in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms. The common presence of smoke alarms in the home tends to create a false sense of security. Simply having smoke alarms isn’t enough. They need to be tested and maintained properly.
