GROUNDBREAKING FOR NEW KERRVILLE PETS ALIVE! S.A.F.E. CAMPUS SET FOR TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 25TH
(Kerrville, TX) – Construction fencing now marks the entrance of the future Kerrville Pets Alive! S.A.F.E. Campus, located at 2926 Memorial Blvd. in Kerrville. A public groundbreaking ceremony will be held Tuesday, November 25th at 10:00 AM.
“This has been years in the making,” said Karen Guerriero, with Kerrville Pets Alive! “The events surrounding the flood—where KPA! assisted more than 350 pets—proved the need for our organization and a purpose-built facility.”
The S.A.F.E. Campus (Saving Animals from Euthanasia) is not a shelter, but will serve the community through:
  • A safe space for cats and dogs rescued from Kerr County Animal Control
  • A temporary recovery area for shelter pets after spay/neuter or major surgeries
  • Free and low-cost pet wellness clinics
  • A location where Kerr County residents can meet animals available for adoption
  • Free pet food, supplies, and community resources
  • A Humane Education Center
KPA! is currently raising funds for Phase II, which includes renovating a multi-purpose building for education, trainings, and a small low-cost spay/neuter unit located at the rear of the property.

About Kerrville Pets Alive!
Kerrville Pets Alive! (KPA!) was established in 2019 in response to the community’s concern over the high euthanasia rate of animals impounded at Kerr County Animal Control, the county’s only open-intake, taxpayer-funded facility governed by Texas State law and the Kerr County Commissioners.
How KPA! Makes a Difference:
  • KPA! has reduced the euthanasia rate at Kerr County Animal Control by 90% since its founding.

  • This was accomplished through strong partnerships with animal control, area veterinarians, rescue groups, law enforcement, and local officials.

Pg.2

  • KPA! rescues only Kerr County animals.

  • KPA! works hands-on in the field with Kerr County Animal Control, a law enforcement entity responsible for bite cases, rabies investigations, large-animal seizures, protective custody animals, and sick or unwanted pets of any size or breed.

  • KPA! assists in the facilitation of potential animal cruelty cases.

  • KPA! volunteers fund spay/neuter surgeries and extensive medical care for impounded pets, totaling more than $60,000 annually.

  • KPA! contributes to the local economy by utilizing Kerr County veterinarians, providing over $300,000 in medical care each year.

  • KPA! is on-site 365 days a year providing socialization, transport, and rescue coordination for impounded animals.
