The Kerrville Public Utility Board (KPUB) announces its 19th consecutive year to participate in the national Tree Power program promoted by the American Public Power Association (APPA).  This is the second to the last year that KPUB will participate in this program.  To date 39,000 trees have been given to KPUB customers through the Tree Power program since March 1995.
This year's Tree Power event will be held on Saturday, April 26th, 2014 - rain or shine!  KPUB will give away 2,000 trees at the KPUB offices, 2250 Memorial Boulevard, starting at 7:00 am.  Typically all the trees are distributed by 10:00 am.  This is a first come, first serve program with one tree per customer.  We ask that customers riding together not expect more than three trees per vehicle.
With the success of the "Keep the Giving Going" collection at the last four Tree Power events, KPUB is once again asking tree recipients to continue the spirit of giving by voluntarily bringing in canned goods to drop off for local non-profits.  Last year, through the customer's generosity, KPUB collected 1,978 pounds of food and $75.00 in monetary donations, which was distributed to local area food pantries.
This year's trees are a choice of Cedar Elm, Bur Oak, or Chinkapin Oak; which are all hardy and drought-resistant varieties.  Perfect for the Texas Hill Country!  Planted in the right location, these trees will be an energy conservation tool for years to come.  Planting information will be provided free of charge.
KPUB officials ask that you remember to bring your coupon (included in your monthly statement) to receive your free tree.  One coupon per customer only.  And don't forget your canned good for "keep the Giving Going."  For more information, please call 830-257-3050 or check our website at www.kpub.com.
