Mardi Gras on Main
Call to Artists for Signature Art Competition
The City of Kerrville Main Street program invites you to participate in the annual Mardi Gras on Main event through your Mardi Gras themed artwork.  This event highlights the very best of wine, art, and Cajun cuisine, and will be held Fat Tuesday, February 17, 2015 in Historic Downtown Kerrville on Earl Garrett Street.  A major component of Mardi Gras on Main is the artwork!  All artwork submitted will be juried and one signature piece will be chosen as well as others to be displayed at the event.  The signature piece for the 2015 Mardi Gras on Main will be professionally reproduced on posters as well as featured on a private wine label for signature wine.
Entries for the 2015 Mardi Gras on main Event Signature Art will be accepted through Monday, November 24, 2014.  The original artwork should be no smaller than 18 inches and no larger than 49 inches on any one side.  Artists may submit up to three (3) pieces of original artwork for a single entry fee of $35.00.  These pieces must be original, never have been displayed prior to the event, and available for release.  The winning artists will receive a $250.00 award check, framed poster of their winning artwork, a commemorative bottle of signature wine and two tickets to the event VIP reception.  Entry forms are available at the Main Street office located at City Hall, 701 Main Street or online at www.mainstreetkerrville.com.  Entries must be submitted in electronic format.  Please sent the name of the piece and the image(s) as a JPEG file to Ashlea Boyle, Special Projects Manager via e-mail to ashlea.boyle@kerrvilletx.gov.
Mardi Gras on Main is a fundraiser benefiting  the central city redevelopment efforts of the Kerrville Main Street program. Mardi Gras on Main started in 2005 as a celebration of Kerrville Main Street's 10th anniversary.  It has since evolved into a festival that focuses on fine food, fine music, and fine wine.  Each year since its inception, hundreds of people gather to celebrate Mardi Gras Texas style.  Kerrville Main Street will bring just a hint of the old west into a traditionally New Orleans  style festivity.  The event will have a cash bar with excellent choices of wine and beer, including our Signature Wine by Kerrville Hills Winery.
"Last year, we made a big change and brought the event outside on the streets of Historic Downtown Kerrville for the very first time.  This year, we are making even more fantastic enhancement - entry to the event will be free!  There will also be a gumbo cook-off, Cajun food, and a costume contest," said Ashlea Boyle, Special Projects Manager.  "We have a new committee this year that is doing a fabulous job planning this New Orleans themed event.  Stay tuned for more exciting event announcements!"
The Kerrville Main Street Program has been in existence since 1995.  The mission of Kerrville Main Street is to encourage civic, social, and economic welfare, to foster civic pride and cooperation, and to enhance the aesthetic, historical and cultural aspects of Kerrville through a four-point  approach under the Texas Main Street Program - Organization, Promotion, Design, and Economic Restructuring.
