The Board of Directors of the American Red Cross – Hill County Chapter today announced the selection of a new Executive Director. Jacques DuBose—a veteran, businessman and community leader from the Texas Hill Country—will join the Chapter in this role beginning September 2, 2014.

“The American Red Cross has a great history of convening the Hill Country community to help during urgent local needs, in times of great disasters worldwide, and in support of our military service members and their families. We’re pleased to add Jacques to the list of those we have relied on to lead us in that essential service,” said Hill Country Board of Directors Chair Steve Pautler.

DuBose has served both on the Boerne City Council and Chamber of Commerce, and has been a board member or volunteer leader for a variety of civic and charitable causes, including Hill Country Opera & Arts, Make-a-Wish Foundation, Hill Country Pregnancy Care Center and the Cibolo Arts Council.

“As a native Texan and longtime Hill Country resident, I have seen the great work of the Red Cross first hand—through volunteers, donors and community partners,” Dubose said. “I look forward to starting my new role next month and continuing the legacy of the best small town chapter of the American Red Cross.”

DuBose served both the military and civilian communities during his time in the U.S. Navy. Upon successfully completing his Naval service, DuBose moved back to his home state of Texas and continued to serve through both his business and civic engagement. He currently serves on the Executive Board for the Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce and has earned the Ambassador of the Year Award from 2006 – 2013. He previously served on the Boerne City Council for six years and served as mayor pro tem.

“I am thrilled to welcome Jacques to the Red Cross and am confident that he is the perfect fit to build upon our strong foundation of service in the Hill Country Chapter,” said Marty McKellips, CEO, American Red Cross Central Texas Region. “His impressive history of leadership in this community is an excellent fit for the mission and vision of the American Red Cross.”

Jacques’ selection as the leader of the Hill Country Chapter caps off a transition process that began following Kristy Vandenberg’s retirement in December 2013. James Canup will continue to serve as Interim Executive Director until Jacques assumes his new role in September.
