Kerrville, Texas, July 2014 – Friday, September 26, the 18th annual Texas Heritage Music Day will present over 50 performers and demonstrators gathered together to honor the songwriter Jimmie Rodgers on the campus of Schreiner University from 9am-1:30pm. Texas Public Radio will host a cheese and wine reception at 6:30pm in the Cailloux Student Activities Center followed by Terri Hendrix and Lloyd Maines performing a free community concert sponsored by Toyota of Boerne, honoring the songwriter at 7:30 p.m. on September 26.
Dr. Kathleen Hudson founded the non-profit Texas Heritage Music Foundation (THMF) out of her vision that stories and songs can transform the world and bring together culturally and ethnically diverse communities. The foundation provides another way of learning using stories and songs.

Special additions to the 2014 Music Days include the return of Doug Baum and the Camel Corp, a tribute to Jimmie Rodgers, and the Schreiner choir. The list of over 50 performers includes Slim Ritchey and Jitterbug Vipers, George Ensle, Fritz Morquecho, Thom Joy Poet, with demonstrations by Billy Carter and the Dallas Arms Collectors (saddles and trappings of the West). Tony Galluci and Clifton Fifer return, along with Saddle Pals, Dale Freiderich and Jesus Train (at 9 a.m.) and 4 Proches from Fredericksburg and surprise guests.
The Texas Heritage Music Day brings students and the community together to experience the power of stories and songs in celebrating community and in creating community. Combined attendance since 1997 exceeds 35,000 students, teachers and public. This vision continues throughout the remainder of the school year via THMF's The Bard Project (a unique in-school performance/outreach program) that presents songwriters, performers, storytellers, and demonstrations in area schools, classrooms, and organizations that work with kids at risk.
