Schreiner Color Dash 5K Run/Walk Helps Fight Hunger

Schreiner University’s annual Thanksgiving Color Dash 5k run/walk will start at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Rex Kelly Pavilion. Check-in begins at 8 a.m. at the pavilion, and the race will start outside the Mountaineer Fitness Center.

The annual run/walk, sponsored by the Campus Recreation Department, helps collect canned food items and frozen turkeys—the entry fees--for local food banks. Last year more than 2,800lbs of canned goods were donated, according to Drew Dobbins, director of the Mountaineer Fitness Center and Campus Recreation.

Award medals will be given to the 1st-, 2nd-, and 3rd-place finishers for both male and female runners. Participants are also encouraged to wear costumes. The race gets its name from that fact that recruited bystanders throw powdered paint on participants as they make the circuit.

Advance registration for participation in the Color Dash has passed, but walk-up registrations will be accepted the morning of the race at the Rex Kelly pavilion. A limited number of race bibs are available for late registrants.
