Seeking Volunteers to Serve on Board of Directors
Kerr County Crime Stoppers is a civilian, nonprofit organization established within Kerr County, Texas to help local law enforcement solve crimes.  Crime Stoppers is based on the idea that “someone other than the criminal has information that can help solve a crime.” Crime Stoppers offers a safe, anonymous reporting channel that motivates citizens to provide information on crime in exchange for monetary rewards.  It operates a hotline to receive anonymous tips about fugitives and criminal activity.  The county Sheriff receives and processes those tips.  Local police departments investigate tips and follow through with appropriate law enforcement actions.

Kerr County Crime Stoppers was created in1985.  Since that time, Kerr County Crime Stoppers has paid out nearly $250,000 in rewards, which have lead to the apprehension of nearly 1500 suspects.  On a day to day basis the operation of receiving, processing and rewarding tips is conducted by a deputy within the Kerr County Sheriff’s office.  He is the County Coordinator of the program.  The business affairs of the corporation are managed by a volunteer Board of Directors.  The Board is responsible for establishing policies, standing rules and procedures.  The Board also provides financial oversight, creates a budget, monitors income and authorizes the disbursement of funds.  The Board also works with the County Coordinator and local media to ensure the community stays informed on the Crime Stoppers program, unsolved crimes and fugitives on the loose.

The Board of Directors seeks volunteer Directors from time to time.  The term of office is normally three years but can be renewed for repeated terms.  The Board meets once a month; normally the first Thursday at noon.  Additionally, Directors are asked to serve on committees or undertake projects chartered by the Board.  If you are interested in serving as a Director of Kerr County Crime Stoppers contact Ava Jones at Security State Bank (830) 895-8046 or William “Bill” Swart at (830) 367-2503.
