Annual Spring Cleanup to be held March 30th - April 13th
Doing Your Part During the Spring Season – Tips, Ideas, and Reminders
Kerrville, Texas (March 26, 2015) –
The City of Kerrville Public Works, Solid Waste Division would like to offer some smart, but simple ideas to help you with spring-cleaning and home improvements. Although simple, these ideas can develop a good habit that can make a big difference for the environment, and your pocketbook. Listed below are some recommendations:
- When purchasing cleaning products, only buy what is needed;
- Clean with reusable rags instead of disposable paper towels;
- Look to donate unused products to someone who might use them;
- Donate unwanted clothing, shoes, bedding, and furniture. Check with local organizations to see what the acceptance policy may be. Some charities still accept items and send off in bulk to be recycled if the items can’t be resold; - Donate or recycle used computers and TVs. Manufactures are required by law to offer recycling opportunities to consumers. Visit www.texasrecyclescomputers.org or www.texasrecyclestvs.org for information;
- As always, check for water leaks. Fixing leaks can save you money annually in utility bills. Toilet leak detector tablets are available for free at City Hall; and
- Look to replace fixtures and appliances with those that have energy efficient ratings.
In addition to the above recommendations, the Solid Waste Division would like to remind residents that the Annual Spring Cleanup will begin on March 30, 2015, and curbside pick-up will continue through the week of April 13, 2015. Below is the schedule for collection, which is based on your regular collection day:

"This annual cleanup is a great opportunity to look around the house and discard any unwanted bulky items," said David Barrera, Solid Waste and Environmental Specialist for the City of Kerrville. "It also presents the opportunity to practice good stewardship and ask around to see if any neighbors might be in need of assistance to bring items curbside. This service is included in the solid waste fees for residents and the City encourages residents to take advantage of the opportunity." Currently this service is only offered annually and normally occurs in April. The Public Works Department is looking to increase this opportunity for a total of four times throughout the year – (2) curbside, (2) drop-off with voucher. The increased opportunities are a component of a proposed solid waste services package being presented to City Council for approval in April.
